Description

The Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine, commonly known as the MMR vaccine, is an ideal choice for protection against three common infectious diseases. It combines triple protection in one shot and is suitable for people aged 1 year or above who have incomplete vaccination, uncertain vaccination records or uncertain immunity, subject to medical assessment.

  • Children’s MMRV vaccine (Preventing Measles, Mumps and Rubella) 1 dose $780 (including a doctor’s consultation)

What is the MMR vaccine?

MMR stands for Measles, Mumps and Rubella vaccine. It uses weakened virus components to stimulate the immune system and help the body build an immune response against all three diseases.

How it works

After vaccination, the body gradually develops antibodies and immune memory. If exposed to the relevant viruses in future, the immune system can recognise and respond more quickly, helping reduce the risk of infection, severe symptoms and onward transmission.

Protection

According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one dose of MMR vaccine provides effective protection against measles, mumps and rubella. Protection against measles and mumps is higher after two doses. Most people who complete the recommended doses receive long-term protection.

Vaccination method

The MMR vaccine is usually given by subcutaneous injection, generally on the outer upper arm. A total of two doses is required for full effect: the first dose is usually given at 12 to 15 months of age, followed by the second dose at 4 to 6 years old.

Frequently Asked Questions

1: I do not remember whether I have received the MMR vaccine. What should I do?
If your vaccination record is unclear, consult a doctor first. The doctor may consider your age, medical history, travel plans, work setting and exposure risk before recommending vaccination or antibody testing.

2: How many doses of MMR vaccine are needed?
A total of two MMR doses is required for full effect. The first dose is usually given at 12 to 15 months of age, followed by the second dose at 4 to 6 years old. For adolescents and adults without adequate evidence of immunity, the doctor may recommend one or two doses depending on individual circumstances, with at least 28 days between doses where two doses are required.

3: How long does it take to develop protection after vaccination?
The body needs time to build an immune response after vaccination. If you are receiving the vaccine because of travel or exposure risk, arrange it early and consult a doctor.

4: Can I receive MMR vaccine during pregnancy?
No. MMR is a live attenuated vaccine and is generally not suitable for women who are pregnant or may be pregnant. Female recipients should also avoid pregnancy for a period after vaccination according to medical advice.

5: Are there any side effects after MMR vaccination?
Common reactions may include injection-site pain, redness or swelling, short-lasting fever, rash, temporary swelling of salivary glands or lymph nodes, and temporary joint pain. Severe allergic reactions are very rare. Seek medical help immediately if you experience breathing difficulty, swelling of the face or throat, persistent high fever or other severe symptoms after vaccination.
