Lung Health Check-up Plan (LDCT)

As health awareness rises, comprehensive lung health checks are becoming increasingly important. Among them, Low-Dose Computed Tomography (LDCT) is an advanced screening technique with several advantages.

Main Advantages of Low-Dose Computed Tomography

  1. Lower Radiation Dose
Compared to traditional chest X-rays, low-dose computed tomography can reduce radiation exposure by 60-80%. This greatly minimizes the radiation risk for high-risk groups (such as smokers) who require regular screenings.
  2. Better Imaging Quality
Low-dose computed tomography provides clearer and more detailed chest CT images, helping doctors to detect early lung abnormalities, such as small nodules and interstitial lung disease, thus improving the accuracy of early diagnoses.
  3. Early Detection of Lung Cancer
With superior imaging quality, low-dose computed tomography can facilitate earlier detection of lung cancer. Early screening and diagnosis significantly enhance treatment opportunities and success rates, thereby improving patient survival rates.

Uses of Low-Dose Chest CT Scans

Early lung cancer symptoms are often subtle; by the time symptoms appear, the disease is usually in its advanced stages, missing the optimal treatment window. Early-stage lung cancer, which can be cured through surgery, has a survival rate of over 90%. Therefore, early diagnosis is crucial for lung cancer patients. Low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) has been proven effective in reducing lung cancer mortality rates and is currently one of the most effective lung cancer screening methods.

Who Should Undergo Low-Dose Chest CT Scans?

It is recommended that individuals at high risk for lung cancer, but who have not yet exhibited symptoms, undergo regular low-dose computed tomography screenings to reduce their lung cancer risk. High-risk factors for lung cancer include:

  • Age 50 or older
  • Long-term smoking
  • Former long-term smokers who quit less than 15 years ago
  • Long-term exposure to radon (a known lung cancer carcinogen)
  • Cancer patients
  • Family history of lung cancer
  • Individuals with pulmonary fibrosis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)

Choosing low-dose computed tomography (LDCT) as a method for comprehensive lung health checks can help detect potential lung issues early and protect your health. Understanding your risk factors and getting timely screenings is a wise choice for maintaining lung health. Contact us now to schedule your health check!
