Pre-Screening Guidelines

  • Please bring your previous imaging film(s) or/and report(s) for reference
  • Please inform our staff if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or breastfeeding 

CT CONTRAST INSTRUCTIONS:

  • If you have known kidney disease, a history of kidney procedures or diabetes, please provide renal function test   results  (e.g. blood test for creatinine level, eGFR) from within the past 6 months before a contrast-enhanced CT scan.
  •  If you are on Metformin and your eGFR above 30ml/min/1.73 m2 should continue taking Metformin. Patients with unknown eGFR or less than 30ml/min/1.73 m2, or who have deterioration renal function should cease   Metformin for at least 48 hours from the time of the examination.
  • Please inform our staff if you have a history of allergies (particularly to contrast media), asthma, eczema, diabetes,   or other chronic illnesses.
  • Please inform our staff if you are diabetic or taking the diabetic drug “Glucophage”.

CT Coronary Angiogram(CTCA) Instructions:

  • Please do not exercise, smoke, consume alcohol, or drink any caffeine (coffee, tea, coke, etc.) for 12 hours prior to the examination.
  • If you have asthma and use an inhaler, please bring your inhaler with you and inform our staff.
  • You should continue to take your routine medications as prescribed. However, hypertension medication may need to be stopped;   please consult your primary doctor before the examination.
  • Please bring the list of your current medication with you.

CT VIRTUAL COLONOSCOPY INSTRUCTIONS:

2 Days Before Examination:

  • Please consume a low-residue diet (e.g. avoid vegetables and dairy products). Only liquid foods (e.g. plain congee) and non-residue beverages (e.g. water, tea, black coffee, clear soup) are allowed. Prescribed medications may be taken as usual.

1 Days Before Examination:

  • The examination requires Klean Prep bowel cleaning preparation beforehand Please consult your primary doctor before taking it.

Day of Examination: 

  • Please fast on the day of the examination. Small amounts of plain water are allowed.
  • The examination requires intravenous administration of an Antispasmodic (Buscopan or Glucagon) prior to gas insufflations via an enema tube.

  • Please avoid wearing make-up on the day of your visit.
  • Please inform our staff if you have any of the following:
    • Cardiac Pacemaker/   Implantable Cardiac Defibrillator
    • Artificial Cardiac Valve
    • Orthopaedic Prosthesis
    • Cerebral Aneurysm Clip
    • Surgical Clip
    • Cochlear Implant, Neurostimulator
    • Dental Implant or Brace
    • Claustrophobia
    • Other Metallic Implant or Prosthesis
    • Intrauterine contraceptive devices (IUCD)
    • Previous eye injury with possible metallic fragments

MRI ABDOMEN / MRCP / MRI WHOLE BODY SCAN INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Please fast for 4 to 6 hours before the examination. You may continue to take your regular medication with sips of plain water.

MRI CARDIAC(FUNCTION/PERFUSION/VIABILITY) INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Please do not consume any alcoholic or caffeinated products (e.g. coffee, tea, coke, chocolate) for 12 hours before the examination.
  • Please fast for 4 to 6 hours before the examination. You may continue to take your regular medication with sips of plain water. If you are taking the below medications:
    1. Please bring any sprays or inhalers that you are taking to      the scan appointment. If you are on any medication      from your doctor please continue to take it as normal.
    2. If you are taking medication known as Dipyridamole /     Persantin or Nicorandil/Ikorel, please stop this for 24     hours prior to the scan appointment.
  • For children or patients who experience claustrophobia, the MRI environment can cause significant anxiety Our radiographers are trained to support you and will take proactive steps to ensure your comfort. These measures can include arranging for a family member to be present or organizing a pre-scan tour of our MRI imaging suite.

MRI ENTEROGRAPHY INSTRUCTIONS:

2 Days Before Examination:

  • Please follow a low-residue diet, avoid high-fibre foods such as vegetables, fruits, whole grains, and dairy products. You may consume clear or low-residue liquids only, such as plain congee, water, clear soup, tea, or black coffee (no milk or cream). Prescribed medications may be taken as usual with a small sip of water, unless otherwise instructed by your doctor.

1 Days Before Examination:

  • The examination requires Klean Prep bowel cleaning preparation beforehand Please consult your primary doctor before taking it.

Day of Examination: 

  • Please fast for 6 hours and arrive 1 hour before the examination to drink the oral contrast.
  • The examination may require intravenous administration of an Antispasmodic (Buscopan or Glucagon).
  • Please bring a list of your current medications and old film(s) with you.
  • Please wear loose, comfortable clothing. You will need to uncover the skin over the area to be examined. You may be asked to change into an examination gown.


ULTRASOUND OF UPPER ABDOMEN, LIVER & GALLBLADDER (LGB) INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Please fast for 4-6 hours before the examination. Plain water, black tea and black coffee are allowed.


ULTRASOUND OF WHOLE ABDOMEN INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Please fast for 4-6 hours before the examination, and drink plenty of water before the examination to ensure a full bladder.

ULTRASOUND OF PELVIS, PROSTATE & BLADDER INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Please drink plenty of water before the examination to ensure a full bladder.
  • Please bring your previous mammogram and breast ultrasound film(s) and/or report(s) for reference.
  • You may need to undress to the waist, so wearing two-piece outfit would be preferable.
  • Please inform our staff if you are pregnant, may be pregnant, or breastfeeding.
  • Please avoid using bath powder or oil, perfumes, creams or deodorants on the breast and underarm areas    on the day of your visit.
  • It is recommended to perform 7 days after the last day of menstruation in order to minimize breast discomfort   during the examination.

INTERVENTION (FNA/CORE BIOPSY/VAB) INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Please stop blood thinner (e.g. warfarin, clopidogrel, dipyridamole) for 24 hours before the examination.
  • Please avoid strenuous activity, carrying heavy objects, or raising the arm on the same side of biopsy for the subsequent 3-5 days.
  • Please stop taking blood thinners (such as warfarin, clopidogrel, dipyridamole, etc.) 24 hours prior to the test.
  • Please refrain from strenuous activity, carrying heavy objects, or raising the arm to be examined for 3-5 hours after the check up.

ECHOCARDIOGRAPHY INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Please bring a list of your current medication and   old film(s) with you.
  • Please wear comfortable clothing during examination. 
  • Please do not consume milk, coffee, tea, or other dairy products before the examination (not applicable to patients who have undergone cholecystectomy).
  • May continue usual medication with small amounts of plain water.

TREADMILL EXERCISE ECG INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Take your normal medications unless the doctor or nurse specialist who has asked for the test has advised otherwise.
  • Please avoid eating a heavy meal, do not drink alcohol, or smoke for at leat two hours before the examination.
  • Please avoid any strenuous exercise on the day of examination.
  • Please bring a list of your current medication and old films with you.
  • Please wear shorts/jogging bottoms during the examination.
  • Please wear a suitable pair of running  shoes during the examination.
